no, we really can't there isn't anything for ordinary individuals to cut back on after 50+ years of cutting back that would make a difference, that's why it's such a problem if gov'ts choose to burn up oil by waging war, if billionaires are allowed private jets & yachts, if AIs & cloud services burn up the energy of entire small countries...there's NOTHING we can give up to offset it, not even huge #s of people giving up having kids & cars helped, our use is a rounding error

you have 16 years of work credits? person who worked 25 years has a min benefit of ~$800 (that's where that # comes from) it's possible for someone to have a min benefit of only $54/ month if they only had 11 years of work credits i can't imagine how anyone can manage on any of these sums source: Special Minimum Benefits Table on the official US social security site (but it doesn't let me link -- i guess they're embarrassed by these low payouts, as they should be!)

the thing i never understood about avocado toast is it seems like the kind of thing you would eat because you can't afford the real food in the restaurant... it feels like a certain segment of society thinks that ordinary people should not be allowed to eat anything at all...

so a con artist was selling flights that didn't exist & got a ton of free promotion from the Dutch newspaper just great, it only encourages them this reminds me, there are fake tours being promoted on Instagram using AI, i was promoted a fake AI-gen Costa Rica tour that i could ID as fake because i had visited the region several times & know the man who took one of the photos they stole but i fear for less experienced travelers, the scams are EVERYWHERE & the platforms DGAF

just think, the world could be at peace right now & we could be enjoying Joe Biden or Kamala Harris's stock market & continued economic recovery but fraud & the trafficking of girls & women are considered no crime by 99.9% of those in the US justice system -- including the judges who set him free even after brave DA's & juries did the right thing...
