USDC on base seems far more common for 402 payments now than Bitcoin. Recently, even Stripe joined the bandwagon. That’s a centralized stablecoin on a permissioned chain. Agents are starting to use fiat. It’s a huge loss, and in a race, many aren’t even aware that it exists. The scam coins are marching on, and even fiat is evolving. Where are the Bitcoin solutions that attract real users? Which other concept other than buying and selling Bitcoin has actually broken out of the bubble and made it to the mainstream? Bitcoin doesn’t just happen. These missing solutions need to be built by someone. Reject the “Bitcoin wins by hodling” narrative. The devs and entrepreneurs are what keep this project alive and keep marching forward. It’s not the scammy influencers, not the psychotic drama queens, the child-like infighting, or incompetent idiots dancing on the graves of word-class devs leaving Bitcoin. I hope the bear market flushes all that crap away, and we can get back to building stuff instead of tearing it down. /rant

most people think fiat works. we win at the margin when they get rugged and learn the error of their ways.

i don’t think we only win when everything else blows up. bitcoin will be here, but it can take another couple decades. anything can happen in the mean time.

It's really hard to judge the traction of USDC 402 payments based on all of the hype happening on socials. What have been your best ways to actually get a sense of the real, genuine traction of agentic stablecoin payments?

I sent you an DM on twitter a few days ago about how PPQ could offer your new product Chat, TTS, STT, Image, Video, Web Scraping, etc. PPQ is trying to step up in exactly this area... give us a shot please.

It is, that's why I'm suspicious. Regardless, smoke and mirrors do lead to genuine traction so we need to capture the agentic payments space first if possible.

My feeling recently -- since I run some fiat businesses -- is to, whenever I'm about to pay someone, just harass them a bit about paying in bitcoin -- like "You want me to pay you with PayPal, but here, look how crap this exchange rate is, how about your provide a Lightning address instead?" .... 92% of the time they tell me to fuck off and want PayPal. But if a normie hears that request 10 times over 10 years, eventually a lightbulb might go on...

then you are more optimistic than me on the timeline. I think we have the low-hanging fruit of people who will be interested for either technical or ideological reasons. but for the vast swathes of normies, fiat is always going to work better. until they are made to care about either inflation, privacy, or censorship resistance, you literally can’t build anything superior, as judged by criteria they care about. I don’t mean this to be too doomery. I still think we win in the end and of course all this stuff ought to be built to facilitate victory. I’m just trying to be realistic about *how* we win.

We would be happy to build according to your guidance and how you best envision it being built.

Nice idea, but the issue is that Tether would have to decide that they actually want to do this. And right now, Solana and Tron rails are good enough for them, I think.

Most people will never care about the issues bitcoiners are aware of and that bitcoin fixes. It's as often a "pareto principle issue" that will lead about 20% of people waking up and using bitcoin. The other 80% remaining will follow by mimicry because they'll have to in order to not be left behind. It's the gunpowder dilemna that Saifedean recalls regularely. Either you adopt it, either you lose. You do it because the most successfull people are doing it, and are asking to be paid in it.
