My father, Paul Rusesbagina, known for his bravery in the movie Hotel Rwanda was kidnapped, tortured, illegally detained in Rwanda (2020-2023) because he called the world to pay attention to Kagame’s dictatorship. While in prison, our family relentlessly advocated for his freedom and the gov’t of Rwanda used PEGASUS to surveil us and track our every move. Our story is sadly not unique, many Rwandans have been persecuted by Kagame, a darling of the west.

This is not just a regional issue. It is a war driven by the global demand for Congo’s vast mineral wealth, including cobalt, gold, and coltan—essential to our smartphones, electric vehicles, and other modern technologies. While the world benefits from these resources, the Congolese people pay the price with their lives. Rwanda’s exploitation of this conflict is leaving families in despair, fueling a crisis that rarely makes headlines but should demand global attention.
