"architecture" in particular grinds my gears. What architecture? Where? Even the stuff that gets showcased is just copies of something someone did in the 50's. And everything now is just engineering, in the sense of being low cost.

Agreed. And even then only engineering in the debased sense of the word. Architecture and engineering are both creative arts in the true sense, or, in technical machine learning parlance, out of distribution. Man can do this because he has a ration intellect and can grasp higher order. Machines cannot do this even a little bit and there is nowhere any theory about how we would even begin to to try give them this power. And how we ourselves do it is still a complete and utter mystery with no mechanistic explanation whatsoever. Materialism is falsifiable on first principles and the root of this mentally ill (and entirely non sequitur) belief that somehow "AI" will cross over that line is a wildly irrational of an unexamined belief in the materialist religion. Frankenstein's monster is a pile of dead parts and more lightning is not going to bring it to life.
