From a historical perspective it’s the remnants of the intentionally divided Middle East as designed by the British empire. It doesn’t excuse Israel of its role in the world but it fits much more cleanly than this weird upside down world where a country with an economy the size of Spain is somehow the kingmaker. I find myself getting frothed up about Israel’s misdeeds too but in other world events usually when I have a strong emotional reaction to something related to current events I realize in retrospect I was being manipulated. I’m not 100% convinced by Simon’s perspective but it is making me reexamine my priors. I still think Israel’s treatment of Palestine and thirst for war and technocratic gulags is disturbing, but that doesn’t mean they are the ones pulling the strings.

Isreal needs to be destroyed, and I think there's a good chance it will be once the reordering is done. They won't be needed in order to justify western military presence in the ME. Now by destroyed, I mean left to fend for itself. Without the dollar, Israel is nothing.
